"It was our first stay in Plettenberg bay and also in this great house. Almost every room offers a magnificent view of the bay. The breakfast offered a great selection of fruit and muesli, various warm and cold snacks and the selection of fresh prepared eggs. The staff was friendly and very courteous, and the service in the evening with our own well-stocked bar in the building made the offer perfect! Thank you for the great room upgrade! We'll be back." - Atze57, December 2019
The city on the Indian Ocean is relatively manageable. It currently houses around 9,000 residents. During the holiday season, however, the population increases considerably and sometimes even exceeds the 50,000 mark. It is recommended to visit the South African city from January to May and from October to December. During these months the temperatures are pleasant and precipitation is reduced to a minimum.
The history of Plettenberg Bay can be traced back to 1778. The governor of the Cape Colony - Joachim von Plettenberg - placed the small piece of land under the administrative sovereignty of the Dutch-East India trading company. In memory of the governor, the bay was finally given the name Plettenberg Bay. The bay was mainly used as a port and whaling station. Over time, Plettenberg Bay turned into a vacation paradise.
Plettenberg Bay can rightly be called the most popular vacation spot on the Garden Route. Not only international travelers are drawn to the beautiful town, but South Africans also like to spend their holidays in the Keurbooms Lagoon. This is due to the wonderful ambience, but can also be attributed to the countless leisure activities:
Since Plettenberg Bay is located directly on the Indian Ocean, the sea can be used for all kinds of activities and amusements. You can surf, sail and swim at Robberg and Keurbooms Beaches, as well as Plett Wedge and The Wreck. In addition, it is also possible to use the underwater dive trail. It meanders along the coast and leads snorkelers and divers past the seaside resort's unique coral banks. The water temperature averages between 18 and 23 degrees.
For the more adventurous, canoeing on the Keurbooms River is great. The river provides fun and excitement and spoils the athletes with an incredible landscape.
While the dolphins can be seen all year round, the whales can only be seen between July and September. The giants can be seen up close on a boat.
The Robberg Nature Reserve is just a stone's throw from Plettenberg Bay. Holidaymakers can put their fitness to the test here and take various hiking routes. The cliffs of the reserve overlook the ocean and, if you're lucky, whales and dolphins poke their heads out of the water.
You can put your skills to the test on the Plettenberg Bay Country Club, Rietvlei Mashie and Goose Valley golf courses. The clubs also warmly welcome beginners.
In addition to the countless animal parks that house birds, wild cats, monkeys and elephants, you can also follow the trail of the exotic. For example, safari tours in open 4x4 vehicles or on horseback are offered in the 2,200 hectare Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve. No matter what you choose, this memory will last forever.
La Vista Lodge is an exceptional hotel in the heart of the Garden Route. The 4 Star Plettenberg Bay Hotel spoils its guests with a wonderful ambience, cozy luxury suites and excellent food. If you have made extensive use of the outdoor area of the accommodation, you can use the surrounding area with its wide range of leisure activities. In addition to sporting activities such as hiking, surfing and golf, you can also get incredibly close to the animal kingdom.
